Am I really hungry?

Most of us eat too much.  We eat for many different reasons and can’t always identify if we are truly hungry.  We often eat for comfort, as a reward or simply out of boredom.  Thirst is also a common trigger. Learning to identify these triggers can help support weight loss.

Three balanced meals a day should be sufficient without the need to snack.

What is the Glycaemic Index?

Glycaemic index, or GI is a measure of the effects of carbohydrates on blood sugar levels. Carbohydrates that break down quickly during digestion and release glucose rapidly into the bloodstream have a high GI; carbohydrates that break down more slowly, releasing glucose more gradually into the bloodstream, have a low GI. GI foods are marked out of 100. One hundred being glucose.

Protein, when eaten with carbohydrates,  slows the release of glucose even more thus lowering GI further.

Why is blood sugar balance so important?

Refined carbohydrates, such as cakes, white bread, chocolate, pizza, pies, biscuits etc., carry a large amount of sugar, which is quickly released from the digestive system and deposited into the blood stream. Insulin is released to pick up the sugar, now converted to glucose, and transport it to the cells of the body, where it is used as energy.  Because so much sugar has been dumped into the bloodstream at one time, insulin cannot cope with it all.  What isn’t transported to the cells is stored as fat.  Eventually insulin becomes weak and ineffective.  If left unchecked, this can lead to conditions like Metabolic Syndrome or Syndrome X.  Type II Diabetes followed by insulin dependant Type I Diabetes may well eventually result.

Poorly balanced blood sugar levels lead to lack of energy, poor sleep, head-aches, anxiety and mood swings as well as weight gain!

The Sureslim Programme is based around complex carbohydrates, lean good quality protein, and essential fatty acids.  These foods release their energy slowly and consistently allowing just the right amount of insulin to be released.  All the glucose is effectively transported to the cells and none stored as fat.

Well balances blood sugar levels result in stable mood, better sleep, increased energy and weight loss!
